Spinal Cure Australia (SCA) formerly Australasian Spinal Research
Trust, is a non-profit organisation, established in 1994, dedicated to funding
scientific research to find a cure for paralysis caused by Spinal Cord Injury
(SCI). SCI is devastating to those injured, their family and friends. There are
approximately 20,000 Australians with SCI who are restricted to wheelchairs
living as paraplegics and quadriplegics. At least six new injuries are
sustained in Australia each week – the average age of injury is 19 years of
age, which means a lifetime of paralysis, restriction to a wheelchair and,
often, respirator dependence.
