Home in FloridaHi Everyone
Well I'm sitting on my couch watching the Yankees-Red Sox game waiting for the Master to come on TV in about half an hour. I have to say that the Masters is by far my most favorite golf tournament to watch! I have planned my whole weekend around watching it. After sleeping in this morning, I got up, had breakfast, then got my boat ready to go fishing tomorrow morning and then have been hanging out by the pool waiting for the telecast to start. Tomorrow will be fishing and then be in front of the tele in time for the telecast. No other tournament would I do this for. I just have always watched the Masters since I was a kid. I remember getting up early in the morning Australian time to watch it. My first memory is the 1986 Masters, when Jack Nicklaus made a back 9 charge to beat my, then, new idol, Greg Norman. Being a fan of Greg Norman was heartbreaking when watching the Masters....but it still made me love it. So you know where I will be all weekend.
I have taken it pretty easy this week, as you can see by my weekend plans!! I decided to take the whole week off from golf. I have played 7 out of the last 9 weeks with a whole lot of travel included in that. My body was telling me to chill out. After I finished Kraft on Sunday, I flew to San Francisco for Juli Inskster's long awaited Hall of Fame party. When I say long awaited.....12 years long time coming!! Juli's got into the HOF in 1999 and just this week got round to having a party. It was a blast....great to be able to celebrate the career of such a champion but also such a great person and friend! So Wednesday night I made it back home to Florida and since then I haven't done too much exciting except....watch the Masters!! ;)
So since I last updated you all, I played in the Kia Classic and then our first major of the year, the Kraft Nabisco Championship. After coming off a win at the RR Donnelley Founders Cup, we were in a surprising cold and dreary LA for the Kia Classic. That's about how the week was for my golf wise....cold and dreary. Not much great happened. I really wasn't a fan of the course but I'm not sure if it was because it was so damp and cold. Anyway, I was happy to drivng to the desert on Sunday afternoon headed to one of my favorite tournaments of the year, the Kraft Nabisco.
Talk about a change in the weather, we had extreme heat last week, temps up into the hundreds! I wasn't complaining though, my body much prefers it when it is warm. My prep for the week went ok...I shook off the bad feels I had created in LA and was ready to go Thursday. I got off to a good start, with 3 under on the first round. I didn't play super well but I managed my game really well and was happy with my position. Unfortunately managing my game is what let me down the next 2 rounds. The key to my success to start the year hasn't necessarily been that I have been swinging my best or any one thing in particular but it has been because I have done the things I have needed to, to keep the momentum of my round going. That may mean making a putt at the right time, hitting a great chip or having stretches of good ball striking that produces birdies. During Friday and Saturdays rounds, I failed to do those things that kept my momentum in the right direction. Sunday was quite a difficult day with the winds gusty and swirly. I think Sunday was my best ball stiking day of the week but I was unable again, do make the momentum putts. So a T-13...not what I wanted at the start of the week but ok considering I wasn't at my best. I had a lot of good friends out though which always makes it easier when things don't go as planned. It's always great to catch up with everyone and just hang out a bit.
I was happy to see Stacy Lewis win on Sunday! I thought the fact that she went into Sunday a couple back from Yani Tseng was a good thing for her. When you haven't won before, especially a major, I think coming from behind frees you up a bit. It certainly worked out that way for Stacy. She really played great and I was happy to be able to be there on 18 to see her jump in Poppy's Pond with her family. Unfortunately, her Mum didn't land well and broke her leg!! Ugh...feel so bad for her. I'm sure eventually the Lewis family will be able to celebrate Stacy's win.
Ok...so the last few paragraphs have taken me awhile to type as the Masters started 20 minutes ago!! Aussie Jason Day just took the outright lead. Let's hope an Aussie puts on that Green Jacket finally!
