Safeway ClassicHello Again!
Pumpkin Ridge.....what can I say....its not a place that has treated me too kindly my last couple of trips!! We played the 2003 US Open there on the Witch Hollow course and I missed the cut. My first trip back there since then and I miss the cut on the Ghost course at last week's Safeway Classic! This only occurred to me on Sunday when I was heading out to practice and work on what went wrong. What went wrong??? Well not a lot went right is probably a better start. Nothing was particularly good but I did have patches that were ok. My ball striking was pretty average and my putting was really disappointing. I really had made great strides with it the last couple of tournaments that I had played before the 3 week break. My coach Ian Triggs was there for the week, so we worked really hard on Sunday and hopefully ironed out a few things in my swing. You never can tell until you play again but things started to feel a lot better. One bright spot for the week was that I had a hole-in-one during the first round on the fifth hole. I had just three putted the previous two holes in a row, so there wasn't a lot of positive vibes flowing over me before that shot but sure enough it came off the club just as I had pictured it. Nice little fade 4 iron landing a couple yards short and rolling straight in!! Stupid game! You can take 3 shots from 35 feet but then five minutes later take 1 shot from 185 yards!
So this week, I am in Calgary, Canada. It wasn't the easiest of trips on Monday let me tell you! Flight delays, missed connections and worse of all no clubs turned up!! And of course the airline didn't even know where they were! Luckily enough, after worrying all night, I received them at about 9 am this morning and was able to get a practice round in. We are back at Priddis Greens, where I won my first major, the Du Maurier Classic in 1999. Really excited to be back here and hope that the memories and good vibes give me a little boost for the week.
Besides golf, I haven't really done anything else to exciting in the past week. You can't beat the two places that we have played in the last two weeks. Portland is such a great place. Last year after the tournament I spent a few days just to look around a bit more. What a beautiful area. I think Oregon is my favorite state that I have traveled too. I definitely would love to spend a bit more time there in the future. This week is Calgary and also such a beautiful spot. Again a few years ago I holidayed up in Banff and Lake Louise, which is about an hour or so out of Calgary. The area is just simply stunning...with the mountains and the crystal blue lakes, its just amazing. I would have loved to have the time to get up there this week but its just not going to happen. Although the views from the course are pretty special too.
Alrighty......send me lots of great vibes for the week! I would love to go back to back at Priddis!!
Take care
Karrie
