Samsung World ChampionshipHello again!
Well last time I updated you all, I was having a not so great travel day. You'll be happy to hear that I made it out to San Diego safely and even made it time to have dinner with my caddy Mikey for his birthday.
Wow! San Diego is a pretty place! I haven't ever spent much time there, so it was good to be there for the whole week. Southern California has always reminded me a bit of the southern states of Australia. I even had that feeling more so when playing the north course at Torrey Pines. I wasn't the only Aussie there last week that felt that way. We all discussed how many times during the day we felt like we could be playing a course in Sydney. I think it had a lot to do with the Eucalyptus trees and the dryness of the area that most feels like home.
But what a course that north course is at Torrey Pines. You can definitely see why it has such a great golf history. It is a wonderful layout that really makes you hit a bunch of different shots. The greens are small that require some really precise iron play. The fairways and rough were Kakuya grass and although I have played on it a few times in Australia, it is a totally different grass to play from the rough and chipping from around the greens. That was one of my difficulties and also reading the greens were tough for me. So as much as I loved the course, I never did feel really comfortable out there. So I am a little disappointed with my result. I felt with the layout, I could have performed better.
I've moved up the California coast for this weeks event, the CVS/Pharmacy LPGA Challenge. I won here in 2006 and also played well here in 07. So hopefully I will get some good vibes and have a great chance come Sunday.
I have a few friends in town this week. I went with a couple of them up to Napa Valley to do a bit of wine tasting yesterday. I love it up there! I try at least once a year to go if I can. Its so pretty and very relaxing. Its nice just to hit a few wineries and taste some wine you may not have even heard of. I do have my favorites which I try to go to when I'm there. Plumpjack is one of my favorites. I didn't get to their winery yesterday but I went to their new one called Cade. Its located on Howell mountain and the views from the tasting room are amazing. As always the wine was great too! We all had a really great day and it was fun just to hang with my friends that I don't get to see often enough.
So here's hoping for another good run at Black Hawk Country Club! Send me lots of birdie vibes!
Take care,
Karrie
