Springfield State Farm Classic

Hi Everyone

I'm currently sitting on my couch back at my home in Florida. I am watching game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. I have to say its been quite a few years since I paid this much attention to the ice hockey finals. I have a few friends from Boston that are cheering on the Boston Bruins, so I'm being a good friend and cheering for the Bruins to win. They are currently up 1-0. If they win it would be a change for me in the teams that I have been supporting of late. On Sunday night the Miami Heat lost game 6 to lose the NBA finals to the Dallas Mavericks. That was very disappointing....I really thought they would get it done after how well they had played against Chicago. I have been a fan of the Heat since I first moved to South Florida in 1998 so I didn't just jump on the band wagon this year. Although I don't think you could call it a band wagon. I think everyone but people living in South Florida were cheering against the Heat all year. I'm not sure I understand all the fuss. The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox go out and buy their team every year and they both have two of the biggest fan bases in all of sport. Go figure. Anyway, I think the Heat boys will be back stronger next year and hopefully will be able to leave all the controversy behind them.

My other disappointing sporting result came this morning (or Wednesday night in Australia). Game 2 of the State of Origin was played today and I got up at 6am to watch it live on tv. Queensland were 1-0 up in the best of 3 series and I thought they would get the job done for sure. The Blues played as well I have seen them play for many years and took out the win. I have quite a few bets going on...as I do every year. Queensland has won the series 5 years in a row so they Mighty Maroons have made me quite a bit of cash and given me a lot of great dinners! The decider is in 3 weeks, which unfortunately is the Wednesday morning of US Open week. I might have to DVR it and watch it a little later that day as it will be on at 4am Colorado time....a bit early to get up when you don't have during an Open week. I still feel good about the Maroons getting the job done...they have to...they can't let Darren Lockyer retire on a losing Qld team.

As for me, I have been home since Monday night. I stayed an extra day in Springfield last week to attend an LPGA board meeting. I have to say so far in my first year as a player director, I have enjoyed learning things about the tour that I thought I knew but wasn't even close.

Before the meeting I played in the State Farm Classic. It really was a bit of a struggling week. After having really bad allergies in Atlantic City, I think they turned into a sinus infection which didn't feel great in the 100 degree heat!  I also struggled with a couple of body issues.  Those couple of things really held me back from feeling 100% and I really just didn't get anything going. I try not to make excuses..and really they are not because if things had been feeling good in my swing I would have had a better showing no matter how my body felt. There are just a couple things that don't feel quite right in my swing. I will work hard this week and see if I can get things going and then my coach Ian Triggs will be there next week. So hopefully together we will get things ironed out and I will be raring to go come next Thursday.

The men's US Open is this weekend.  I am looking forward to watching it...although it is always a little stressful at times as when I see the guys struggling against the tough course conditions that the USGA set up, it reminds me of what we have to look forward to in a couple of weeks. It really is a wide open tournament. I would expect to see a couple of the Englishmen up there. I'm not sure if Lee Westwood can get it done but I'm pretty sure he will be up there with chance. Out of the Aussies, even though Geoff Ogilvy has not played much because of injury I think if he has a good first round you could see him up there on Sunday with a chance. No matter what it will be an exciting event.

Ok well thats it for now. Will check in again with you all soon.

Take care,

Karrie
