January 26, 2010Happy Australia Day Everyone!
I am writing today, on Australia's birthday, to let you all know of a prestigious honour that the Governor General of Australia, Her Excellency Ms. Quentin Bryce AC, has bestowed me. Her Excellency has appointed me a Member of the Order of Australia for my contributions to golf and the community.
I have to say that I feel very humbled and I am deeply moved that my country would even consider me for this honour. I'm not entirely sure I feel worthy. Yes, I have had an amazing career, and yes I feel like I have contributed to the community in a small way, but I feel like I still have so much left to give and achieve! I feel like this prestigious honour will continue to inspire me to help others and to give back. It's not lost on me that I am leading a very blessed life. I will always aim to do my best to uphold this amazing appointment!
On another note, my month at my home in Florida has flow by and I'm currently in middle of my trip back to Australia. I had a great time being at home for that long. Waking up in the same bed four weeks in a row doesn't happen very often for me so I enjoy it when I can.
After I got through all the New Year's festivities, I got back into some hard work. It was really quite cold for a couple weeks, for South Florida anyway, so it made practicing a little tough but I did get some work done. I also tried to work hard on my body. I had a few issues at the end of the season last year that I needed to tend to. They weren't anything major, but I wanted to get my body in certain shape so the same body turns up to the course day in and day out! I think my 35 year old body was letting me know that I can't get away with these things like I did 5-10 years ago! So I am feeling good.
I'm excited to go home to North Queensland for a few weeks before my season starts in Thailand in the third week in February. I will get back to the heat, do some work with my coaches but also spend some fun time with my family.
As always, I will keep you posted to how things are going.
Take care!
Karrie AM
