LPGA Championship and US Open Hi Everyone,
I'm in Colorado Springs for this weeks US Open. It was a quick trip at home. I got home late Monday night after playing in Val Skinner's Life Event which raises money for breast cancer research and promotes early detection especially in young women. It is such a wonderful day. I have played in it for many years and always leave feeling that I have been apart of something special. This year we played at Sebonack Golf Club in Long Island, NY. Sebonack is the site of the 2013 US Women's Open. What a beautiful setting and a challenging course. I'm glad we got to play it a couple of years out....makes me excited for the Open in 13!
So with getting home late Monday night, I took Tuesday off and would have liked one more day off but I needed to get in and do some practice. I didn't swing it particularly well during the LPGA Championship, so some work needed to be done. I felt I did a great job grinding it out during the tournament. I putted well and that's what really kept me in there. Finishing 2 under for the week was actually quite an achievement considering how I felt I swung it. So it wasn't the week I was hoping for playing in the second major of the year but I can really take good things out of it. My putting was great, my scrambling was good and I really made some of the most amazing par saves. Those couple of things will hold me in good stead at The Broadmoor this week.
I did do some good work this week and feel like I touched on a few key things that can get my swing where I need it to be. I think with 3 or 4 days of good practice, getting to know the course and getting used to the altitude, I will be ready to go on Thursday. So my goals for the week are to take care of the basic things, hitting fairways and greens and doing some great work on and around the greens. Also a couple of other goals are to not get to ahead of myself and as always at the US Open...stay patient. I think if I can achieve these few things I will be up there with a chance come Sunday. Let's see how it goes!!
Another thing I am looking forward to this week are the winners of the Karrie Webb Series, Jessica Speechley, Ashley Ona & Bre Elliott are joining me. I hope they enjoy their week and get a chance to see what life is like on the LPGA. I will let you know how it goes.
Take care, Karrie
