Two weeks offWell its been awhile since I last blogged. I have been home in Florida for just over two weeks after being knocked out of the Sybase Matchplay in the second round. Amanda Blumenhurst played great to win but I have to say I was disappointed with how I played that day and to be knocked out so early. Not to worry, that's seems a long time ago after a very restful two weeks off and now I think I am really ready to get into the heart of my season.
I have a three in a row stretch coming up ending with the LPGA Championship. My coach Ian Triggs is out this week, so hopefully with a bit of a tune up it will give me that little boost of confidence to have a good stretch.
Apart from practice and golf related activities, my two weeks off were a lot of fun. I caught up with some friends I hadn't seen in awhile. A few of us went out fishing one day and hung out afterwards. It was quite a successful trip out...I think all on board caught a fish or at least got one on, for a total of 8 on the boat. I spent a little bit of time on my boat. It doesn't feel like its ever enough time though. I really relax when I'm out on the water. It was a very emotional up and down sports watching period for me. Firstly, the first Wednesday that I was home, was the first State of Origin game between, my team, the Queensland maroons and the New South Wales cockroaches. The good guys won!! Which puts them one win away from continuing a record 5th year in a row series win! It was a great game but Qld played that little bit better to hold on to win. The next game is a week from Wednesday. If the maroons go on to win, there will be plenty of players and caddys trying to avoid me to pay up their bets again!
The other sporting event I was glued to was the French Open. My fellow Queenslander, Sam Stosur had a great run to the final. Her performance in beating Justine Henin and Serena Williams was incredible. Sam made the final, becoming the first Aussie woman to reach a Slam final in 30 years. I was so excited for her and couldn't wait to watch the final. Although Sam gave it a great shot in the final, it wasn't meant to be. Francesca Schiavone played better that day and went on to win. I don't think I have ever been so gutted and disappointed for any sports person before. I thought about it all weekend. To come so close, play so well in the lead up and not come up with the goods is tough! Sam had a good run and with how much she improved over the past year, I don't think it will be the last chance she has. I know all of Australia was hoping for the win and hope to see her up there again.
So that brings me to Monday, I'm on a flight to Springfield, Illinois and I am looking forward to the next couple of months. It's good to know that I have a good run of events to get into a good flow like I did at the start of the year. Let's see how it goes!
Take care, Karrie
