Key's TripHi Everyone! Well the Key's Trip was a huge success! We had perfect weather for the whole weekend which was great for our couple days of fishing. Saturday we on an all day fishing trip looking to catch some Dolphin (mahi mahi). After a slow morning the fish started biting around lunch time. Over a two hour period we managed to boat 12 Dolphin ranging from a couple peanut size up to a whopper 35 lb bull dolphin!! Luckily for me, it was my turn to grab the next fish on! We saw him crash the line and then start jumping out of the water! After I saw that I knew I was in for a big fight. After about 20 minutes I got him to the boat. Our mate, Marcello, gaffed him and got him into the boat to the cheers of everyone on board! I was exhausted but pretty pumped as its one of the biggest Dolphin I have ever caught. So it was a successful day. Everyone on board at least brought in one fish. After we got back to the dock, we cleaned the fish and got ready for dinner. We headed to The Islander for dinner where they cooked up our fish a number of different ways. There is nothing better than eating fresh fish, especially when you worked hard to catch it.
Sunday was just a half day trip. We weren't as successful as the day before but we did manage to boat a 25 lb Wahoo. I think my parents had a great time. They both managed to catch a couple of fish. They have never been to the Keys before and they loved it! I think the laid back atmosphere down there reminded them of home.
We headed home on Monday. Mum and Dad headed back to Australia on Wednesday. It was great to have them over for a couple of weeks. Since the trip I have been practicing hard to head back out on tour. It has been a relaxing couple of weeks off. I have a big couple of months ahead of me, so it is good that I took time to recharge the batteries and get a fresh mind and body for hopefully some great play in the majors.
Check out the photos below of me fighting the big 35 lb bull Dolphin!
